‘‘As a practitioner, my heart-centred practice marries evidence-based science on the principles of high performance while holding a safe space to reduce the stress response to heal and optimize movement. I work with active children, elite athletes and performing artists, multi-passionate individuals and moms.
I consult, guest teach and treat elite dance students and professionals in the Greater Toronto Area and have built a reputation to get dancers to return to stage with a deeper connection to breath and musicality. My program, Triple Threat Performer Wellness is now expanding to also support actors and singers.
In 2017, I received a call that a principal dancer from an internationally known company was flying to Toronto to perform for Fall For Dance North and was in need of immediate treatment. On the same day of the call, I went to her hotel and performed a history, examination and treatment that incorporated chiropractic, acupuncture, myofascial release and kinesiotaping.
With one treatment, she was back to the stage. I watched the performance on Saturday evening and I was blown away by her athleticism. She performed effortlessly. She was grateful for our connection.
I realized at that moment, how important my work was. By being an empathetic practitioner to this professional dancer, she could continue to shine her light as a performer to touch the audience with her story.
I have been dancing for over thirty years. Dance connected me to the connection between breath and body. Where there is limitation in mobility, there also lies limitation in breath and musicality.
From a dancer’s perspective, I assess my patients from a holistic perspective. What are the full body movements implicated in this injury? What are the stress and traumas that are perpetuating these “holding patterns”? How can I educate and empower this patient with anatomy and exercises so that they can transform?
So dance in the end, has allowed me as a practitioner to focus on the patient’s growth as opposed to simply stopping symptoms.
Since I graduated in 2005 with big ambitions to grow a practice to impact the dance and high performer community in Toronto, I grew my family.
Today I have two girls and two boys that I raise with my husband as I continue to grow my practice. My focus is to maintain a positive mindset so that I can continue a sustainable practice in the office, studio, home and most importantly, within my body.
My goal is to increase my reach beyond the clinic through teaching and consultation
opportunities using different platforms.’’
